Background

Bob’s interest in woodturning started when he took a pen turning class at Woodcraft after doing furniture kits.  He loved the idea that he could do turning projects in hours and not days or weeks. He then took more classes at Woodcraft, Fairfax County VA Adult Education and Arromont.

He is a member of the American Association of Woodturners, Capital Area Woodturners, Piedmont Triad Woodturners and is on the Board of the Cricket’s Nest, PTWA, Uptown Gallery Group and teaches and is on the marketing committee at Sawtooth School for Visual Arts.

He joined the Capital Area Woodturners which offered skills improvement sessions, demonstrations and workshops from local, regional and world-class turners. Bob became Vice President of the club.

Several years ago he moved to Winston-Salem area of NC and is now a member and Treasurer of the Piedmont Triad Woodturners Association.

About the Woodturnings

Much of the wood that Bob uses comes from local sources and includes maple, cherry, birch, black gum, pine, walnut, burls and many others. He also enjoys turning unique woods from Africa, South America and Australia. Some of the pieces are enhanced with carving, burning, coloring, texturing and inlaying.

Custom Pieces

Corporate gifts including salad bowl sets and pens can be customized with your logo. Personalized gifts for special occasions can also be created. Wood that has special meaning to you can be turned into beautiful pieces.

Variety of turnings

He turns a wide range of beautiful pieces including bowls, pens, hollow forms, kaleidoscopes, boxes, miniatures, wine stoppers, key rings, vases, peppermills, desk accessories, spoon and knife handles, spinning tops and even fancy cutting boards. Corporate gifts and custom pieces can be personalized.

He loves working with different types of wood and his pieces are both artistic and functional. He never knows what is hidden in a piece until he start turning it. Many times he finds live bugs or bug tracks or other surprises which help to enhance the look of the pieces.
